Team News - 2012 First Scrimmage Report

It was a beautiful warm day for the Golden Rams' first scrimmage of 2012, and as is so often the case early in the season, the defense is ahead of the offense. Save for Rondell White, who slashed and dashed seemingly at will, the offense seemed to sputter. The passing game struggled regardless of who was at quarterback. The offensive line didn't pass protect particularly well, giving the quarterbacks little time to find an open receiver. And when the QB got the pass away, the ball was often dropped. Among several players who did not participate for a variety of reasons, were the top three wide receivers LaRonn Lee, Tim Keyser and Eric Brundidge. But the receivers that did play didn't help their cause for more playing time as passes bounced off hands.

There were two big offensive plays - a long pass from Mike Mattei to Jimmy Kelly down the right sideline on a third and long, and true freshman Eddie Elliott bounced out of the pile to zip down the left sidelines for 50+ yard touchdown. Other than that, the 4-2-5 looked really good.
