It was a great day for the offensive line as they enabled redshirt freshman running back Ja'Den McKenzie to roll up 109 yards and a touchdown on just 16 carries without taking a loss. McKenzie carried the pile for eights yards and a first down early in the first quarter, and overall the Golden Rams rushed for 213 net yards. With plenty of time, quarterback Paul Dooley appeared very comfortable as he patiently waited for receivers to get open. It was by far Dooley's best game of the season as he threw for 277 yards and four touchdowns, while running for 59 yards and two more scores. Seven different receivers had at least two catches each, with senior Lex Rosario (5 catches, 98 yards, 3 TD's) and tight end Cody Boozel (2 catches, 13 yards, 1 TD) getting into the end zone for West Chester.
With Isaiah Bruce seen in a boot last week and not in Lock Haven for the game, Phil Poquie saw plenty of playing time. Last week against Kutztown, he lost a couple of kickoffs in the sun, and against Lock Haven, he muffed a punt return although was able to recover it. Offensively against Lock Haven, he had 11 carries for 59 yards and two touchdowns and two catches for 19 yards. He dropped a sure touchdown pass as time expired in the first half, but later turned a fourth-down run which looked like nothing on the right side into a 25-yard touchdown on the left side. Poquie has shown a lot of ability, but needs to improve his consistency.
Defensively, safety Jarey Elder had a monster game with eight solo tackles, an interception and a pass breakup on what could have been another pick. Linebacker Cole Zapf made nine tackles, defensive end Fulani Freeman had a sack and a fumbled recovery, James Bell had an interception and Tyrone Barge had a sack.
There were more changes in the secondary as redshirt freshman Julian Trammell got the start at cornerback as Izaiah McPherson and Jalik Smith did not make the trip. Also absent from the sideline was quarterback Mike Piperno, so it was Zach Gilbert and Yahmir Wilkerson who finished the game behind center.
