Alumni News - Shabazz Survives First Cut

Former Golden Ram Al-Hajj Shabazz remains on the Steelers' roster after the team's first round of cuts. NFL rules require that each team trim their roster to no more than 75 players by 4:00 pm on Tuesday August 30. Included in yesterday's release was cornerback Kevin White. Each team's final 53-man roster must be in place by 4:00 pm on September 3.

Even if Shabazz is not named to the 53-man roster, he still may be signed to the team's 10-man practice squad. While players who are listed on the practice squad still work out and practice with the team, they don't get to play in games or enjoy the financial benefits players on the final roster do.

The Steelers' final preseason games is Thursday night at the Carolina Panthers.
