Game Report - West Chester 27 - Bloomsburg 7

It was a dominating defensive effort by the Golden Rams as West Chester spoiled Bloomsburg’s homecoming 27-7 in front of 5,127 fans. The Huskies were held to just 246 total yards and over half of those (131 yards) came on their last two possessions of the game after West Chester already held a commanding 20-0 lead. Six different West Chester defenders participated in nine tackles for loss, led by defensive end John Dubyk who had 4.0.

Trailing 14-0 at the half, Bloomsburg received the second half kickoff. But on their first play from scrimmage, Steven Denby forced a fumble recovered by Ch'aim Smith. Midway through the fourth quarter, Sean Steinmetz recovered a Husky fumble at the West Chester 17-yard line thwarting a potential Bloomsburg scoring opportunity. Dubyk, Smith and Kevin Duggan each recorded sacks while Pete Galiano led the Golden Rams with seven total tackles.

The game got off to a slow start as the West Chester offense gained just 48 yards and one first down in the first quarter. But on the Golden Rams’ first possession of the second quarter, the offense started clicking. Pat Moriarty connected with freshman tight end Cody Boozel for a 34-yard strike over the middle. Then on the next play, Mike Class took a middle reverse 13 yards to the Bloomsburg 21. Four plays later, Jarel Elder scored on a nine-yard run for a 7-0 lead. The touchdown drive was 94 yards and lasted six and a half minutes.

After the West Chester defense forced a three-and-out, West Chester used the middle reverse look again, but this one ended in a 46-yard flea flicker from Moriarty to Tyler Karpinski. Moriarty later connected with Marcus Sydnor for an 18-yard touchdown pass and the 14-0 halftime lead.

For the game, Eerin Young led all rushers with 97 yards while Elder had 86 yards and two touchdowns. Moriarty finished with 197 yards passing with 105 of those going to Karpinski.
