Player News - Trey Farmer Nominated For Gene Upshaw Award

Senior left guard Trey Farmer has been named one of the candidates for the Gene Upshaw Award which is presented to the top lineman in Division II football. The award was created in 2004 by the Manheim Touchdown Club and is presented to the top junior or senior offensive or defensive lineman in Division II as selected by the sports information directors.


Farmer was All-PSAC East second team as a junior and All-PSAC East first team this season. The Dean's List member appears on the West Chester University Athletic Director's Honor Roll, the PSAC Academic Honor Roll, and the Division II Athletic Directors' Association Honor Roll. Farmer was the 2011 and 2012 recipient of the Arthur Ashe Scholar Athlete Award. On the field, the team captain has not yielded a sack this season and anchors an offensive line that has surrendered only 12 sacks which is best in the PSAC and eighth in the country. The offense ranks 28th in passing, 35th in rushing, 10th in total offense and 16th in scoring offense. The team has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.


The initial field of 48 nominees narrows to two finalists from each region on November 27. Those eight names then comprise the national ballot. The overall winner will be announced on December 16. The annual winner has a standing invitation to the East/West Shrine Game and the NFLPA All-Star Game, which gives the winner an opportunity to play in front NFL coaches and scouts prior to the NFL Draft
