Game Preview - Clarion

West Chester (6-4) concludes their 2012 season when it travels to Clarion (4-6) Saturday for a 1:00 pm kickoff at Memorial Stadium. The Golden Eagles' most significant victory, and their only one over a team with a winning record, was a 34-27 comeback win over East Stroudsburg, a team which beat the Golden Rams last month.

Similar to several teams that West Chester has faced (Cheyney, LIU Post, East Stroudsburg), Clarion is led in the air and on the ground by their quarterback Ben Fiscus. The junior captain signal caller is 184-350 (53%) for 2296 yards, 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions through the air and 636 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. When he does hand off the ball, it usually goes to Bobby Thomas (124 carries for 534 yards and four touchdowns) or Travis Day (56 carries for 254 yards and three touchdowns). Fiscus' primary receivers are Jon Reid (49 catches for 807 yards and two touchdowns) and Aaron Barlow (38 catches for 424 yards). Six different receivers have touchdown receptions for the Golden Eagles this season.

While West Chester uses three different players for kickoffs, placekicking, and punting, Clarion uses Nathan Conway for all three tasks. While Conway is averaging 48 yards per kickoff and 37 yards per punt, he's had two of his seven field goal attempts and three punts blocked. Cory McNamara handles the kickoff return duties while Andrew Paronish returns punts.

The Golden Ram offensive line will have its hands full with Clarion linemen Julian Howsare who has registered 10.5 sacks, two pass breakups, three forced fumbles and a blocked kick and Jacob Heintz who has five sacks among his 43 total tackles. Clarion's defense leads the PSAC in sacks. Safety Andrew Paronish has two interceptions and two forced fumbles to accompany his 51 total tackles. The team's leading tacklers are linebackers Brian Palmiere (77 total tackles including 5.5 tackles for loss) and Rocco Yauger (58 total tackles including 6.0 tackles for loss).

Notes - Rondell White has moved up to 9th in the country in rushing with 132 yards per game, 3rd in the country and 1st in the PSAC in all-purpose yards with 195 yards per game, and 8th in the country in scoring with 10.2 points per game...West Chester has cliched its first winning record since 2009...Mike Mattei is 8th in the nation and second in the PSAC in passing efficiency...even after facing the nation's 3rd best rushing team in the nation in Bloomsburg, the Golden Rams still rank 36th in the country in rushing defense...Ronell Williams is 12th in the country in total tackles...the offensive line continues to perform well, allowing only one sack per game which is good for 16th in the nation.
