After some off field legal issues prior to last season, Derr's name was removed from the roster, but no explanation was provided. Now it is being revealed that he was suspended for the 2015 season.

In 2014, as a backup for Harlon Hill finalist Sean McCartney, Derr was was 15 of 27 for 243 yards and 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. His most significant action came in the playoff game at Concord. After McCartney was injured early in the fourth quarter, Derr attempted to lead a comeback and was 5 of 11 for 87 yards and 1 touchdown. At 6'2", 215lbs, he often entered games as a first down running option and gained 60 yards on 20 carries that year.
