Player News - Rodney Benjamin Joins the Golden Rams

Rodney Benjamin (Northeast) has indicated that he will continue his football career at West Chester University. The 6-2, 180lb safety was part of a Vikings team that advanced to the District 12 Class 6A championship game in both 2021 and 2022. Benjamin reportedly received offers from Division 2 Lock Haven and nearby Eastern.

Player News - Cam McQueen Commits to the Golden Rams

Cam McQueen (Long Island University/North Penn) has indicated that he will continue his football career at West Chester University. The 6-1, 270lb center was a team captain in his senior year for the Knights before attending Long Island University for two years where he was a member of th NEC Spring Academic Honor Roll in 2022.

Since entering the transfer portal in mid-April, McQueen reportedly received offers from Division 2 schools West Virginia Wesleyan, Colorado State Pueblo, American International, East Central (OK), Kentucky State, Charleston (WV), Limestone, Elizabeth City State, Mars Hill, Central State (OH), Lincoln (PA), Chowan, Catawba, Clarion and Wheeling. He expects to have four years of eligibility remaining.

Team News - 16 Golden Rams Named PSAC Scholar-Athletes

Sixteen players that were on the Golden Ram football roster last season have been named PSAC Scholar-Athletes for the 2022-2023 academic year. In order to qualify for the honor, athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better. There were 3,838 athletes from all 18 PSAC institutions of which 221 represented West Chester University.

Representing the football team are: * Student-athletes who were also recognized as a PSAC Scholar-Athlete for the 2021-2022 academic year.

^ Student-athletes who were also recognized as a PSAC Scholar-Athlete for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Player News - Blay Honored, Departs

Sophomore David Blay has been identified by The College Football Network as one of the top 20 defensive tackles entering the 2023 season. Last season as a redshirt freshman, Blay played in all 11 games and tallied 39 tackles, including 13 tackles for loss, en route to earning second team All-PSAC East honors.

Unfortunately, next season he’ll be playing for Louisiana Tech as he now appears on the Bulldogs’ roster. LaTech finished 2022 with a record of 3-9 including 2-6 in Conference USA.

Event News - 2023 Phil Simms NJ All-Star Football Classic

A future Golden Ram will be participating in the Phil Simms New Jersey All-Star Football Classic to be held at 6:00pm on Sunday June 11 in Alumni Stadium at Kean University. Wide receiver Darrell Brown Jr of Kingsway will suit up for the South squad which will be coached by Steve Everette of Willingboro.

Event News - 2023 Tri-County All-Star Football Game

Three future Golden Rams are scheduled to play in the 2023 Manheim Touchdown Club Tri-County All-Star Football Game to be held on Friday May 26 at 7:00 pm at Manheim Central High School's Elden Rettew Stadium.

Playing for the Berks-Lebanon Team are offensive lineman Jacob Collazo of Berks Catholic and Draven Klick of Daniel Boone. Klick is listed as a tight end for this game but has been recruited as a defensive end for the Golden Rams.

Playing for the Lancaster Team is running back Grant Hoover of Hempfield.

The game is sponsored by the Manheim Touchdown Club.

Event News - 2023 Valor Bowl

A pair of future Golden Rams will be participating in the annual Believe and Achieve Valor Bowl to be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 25 at Downingtown's Walter E. Kottmeyer Stadium. Both offensive lineman AJ Saggese of Downingtown West and quarterback Jamy Jenkins of Downingtown East will suit up for Team Allison which will be coached by Joe Coffey of Avon Grove.

The Valor Bowl was founded by Scott Allison and former West Chester Golden Ram and Killinger Hall of Fame member Joe Carroll, and serves as Chester County's senior all-star game with proceeds going to benefit the Special Needs Community of the region.

Many West Chester University football players have participated in the Valor Bowl, most recently offensive lineman Dylan Nichols, quarterback and 2022 MVP Cooper Jordan, and running back Dayshawn Jacobs.

Other notable Valor Bowl alumni include 2001 North Offensive MVP Bob Findora who later led the Golden Rams to the 2004 Division II National semi-final and 2010 East Offensive MVP Rondell White who led the Golden Rams to the Division II National semi-final in 2013.

Event News - 2023 PSFCA 4A-6A East/West Game

Two future Golden Rams are expected to play in the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association (PSFCA) 4A-6A East/West All-Star Game on Sunday, May 21 at Bishop McDevitt’s Rocco Ortenzio Stadium in Harrisburg.

Selected to play for the East squad, which will be coached by Matt Ortega of Coatesville, are:
Kick-off is set for 5:00pm.

Current Golden Rams that have been selected to participate in this annual all-star game include wide receiver D'Shaun Seals, tight end Thatcher Miller, offensive lineman Quinton Derr, wide receiver Seth Degree, defensive back Izaiah McPherson, and tight end Stone Huffman.

Event News - 2023 City All-Star Football Game

Several future Golden Rams are scheduled to play for the Non-Public squad in the Philadelphia City All-Star Football Game to be held on Saturday May 20 at 1:00pm at Northeast High School.

The offense will be represented by lineman Jack Ruskowski of Archbishop Ryan and tight end McDermott Murphy of Archbishop Ryan. The defense will have defensive end Seamus McCain of Penn Charter, linebacker Luke Trunell of Conwell-Egan, defensive back Kyle Schumann of Archbishop Ryan, and defensive back Mekhi Harper of Conwell-Egan.

Several former Golden Rams have participated in this contest including All-American wide receiver Michael Washington (2004), WCU MVP quarterback Mike Mattei (2008), All-American cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz (2010), wide receiver Erick Brundidge (2010), safety Kevin Malone (2012), cornerback Blaise Schieler (2012), offensive lineman Vince Lostracco (2013), and shark linebacker Nydair Rouse (2014).
