Player News - Future Golden Rams Shine in Valor Bowl

Despite the lopsided 39-7 score in favor of the East, the future Golden Rams that participated in the 16th Annual Valor Bowl at Unionville High School performed admirably. Fullback Ryan Fay of Downingtown East was named offensive MVP for the West squad while West Chester Rustin quarterback David Fithian won the same honor for the East team.

Linebacker Sean Steinmetz captained the defense for the East. While Steinmentz played well consistently throughout the game, he did have a notable five minutes. He laid a crushing tackle at the end of the third quarter, received an award between periods, then sacked the West quarterback on the first play of the fourth quarter.

West Chester University head coach Bill Zwaan served as master of ceremonies .

Event News - Bucks County Lions Football Classic

Several future Golden Rams will be participating in the Bob Sands Memorial, Bucks County Lions, All Star Football Classic to be held on June 5 at 7:30 pm at War Memorial Field in Doylestown. Running back Mike Class and lineman Shane Kraynik of Pennridge and defensive lineman Jake Duncan of Central Bucks East will all suit up for the North squad in the contest.

The event is sponsored by the Bucks County Lions Club with the charitable funds raised by the game going primarily to the Bucks County Association for the Blind and the Lions Camp Kirby for the Hearing Impaired.

Event News - Hero Bowl

Three future Golden Rams will be participating in the 38th Annual Delaware County Hero Bowl football game to be held at 7:30 pm on May 29 in Leslie C. Quick Stadium on the campus of Widener University. Expected to participate in the contest are linebacker Tyler Shankle and offensive lineman Connor Walsh, both of Garnet Valley and defensive back Jai Thornton of Haverford who will all suit up for the West team.

The Hero Bowl serves as Delaware county's senior all-star game with all proceeds going to benefit the Hero Scholarship Fund of Delaware County to provide scholarships to the children of police officers, fire fighters and EMS workers who have given their lives in the line of duty.

Alumni News - Leo Continues Kicking Career in PIFL

Former Golden Ram kicker Shawn Leo continues to have success with the Trenton Freedom of the Professional Indoor Football League. In Saturday's 55-42 victory over the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, Leo was 7 of 8 on PAT's against those high, skinny goal posts. Since joining the Freedom, Trenton is 5-1 and their 6-2 record is best in the PIFL as they hold a game and a half lead in the National Division. Leo currently leads the PIFL in kick scoring with 7.5 points per game, PAT percentage with 88.2% and field goal percentage at 33.3%.

Leo is the best kicker in West Chester history and was awarded the Bill Vansant Memorial Special Teams Award the past three years.

Event News - Strause to Play in All-Star Football Game

A future Golden Ram is expected to play in the Manheim Touchdown Club's 13th Annual Tri-County All-Star Football Game on May 24 at Rettew Stadium. Cameron Strause is listed as a running back and defensive back for the North squad which will be coached by Manheim Township head coach Mark Evan. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm.

The Manheim Touchdown Club sponsors the Gene Upshaw Award which is presented annually to the NCAA Division II Lineman of the Year.

Event News - Valor Bowl

Four future Golden Rams will be participating in the 16th Annual Valor Bowl to be held at 7:15 pm on Thursday, May 29 at Unionville High School. Fullback Ryan Fay of Downingtown East and lineman Ben Smith of Bishop Shanahan will suit up for the West squad while West Chester Rustin quarterback David Fithian and linebacker Sean Steinmetz will play for the East team.

The Valor Bowl was founded by Scott Allison and former West Chester Golden Ram and Killinger Hall of Fame member Joe Carroll, and serves as Chester county's senior all-star game with all proceeds going to benefit the Chester County Special Olympics.

Several current West Chester University football players have participated in the Valor Bowl including Brandon Monk, Grant Garbutt, Kenny Massey, and Bill Ford. Other notable Valor Bowl alumni include 2001 North Offensive MVP Bob Findora who later led the Golden Rams to the 2004 Division II National semi-final and 2010 East Offensive MVP Rondell White who led the Golden Rams to the Division II National semi-final last season.

Alumni News - Leo Continues Kicking Career in PIFL

Former Golden Ram kicker Shawn Leo is continuing his clutch kicking with the Trenton Freedom of the Professional Indoor Football League. Leo has participated in three games thus far, converting on 12 of 14 PAT's and 3 of 7 field goals with three of those missed field goals coming from 46 yards away or further. He nailed a game-winning 28-yard attempt with seven seconds left in the Freedom's 33-32 win this past Saturday.

Leo is the best kicker in West Chester history and was awarded the Bill Vansant Memorial Special Teams Award the past three years.

Team News - Seniors Honored

Three senior football players were honored at the Rams Athletic Association's 21st Annual Senior Awards Dinner held at Sykes Student Union yesterday. Senior student-athletes in attendance from all sports were presented with a replica of the rams statue located in front of Old Library. Receiving their statue from Athletic Director Dr. Edward Matejkovic were kicker Shawn Leo, fullback Jared Bonacquisti, and defensive back Courtland Bragg.

Head football coach Bill Zwaan took the opportunity to congratulate and thank each of those seniors individually as well as recognize their team accomplishments.

Event News - Philadelphia City All-Star Game

Four future Golden Rams will be participating in the 40th Annual City All-Star Game to be held on Saturday May 17 at 7:00 pm at Northeast High School. Kicker Connor Foley and defensive end Sean Boylan will play for the Non-Public Team while defensive back Nydair Rouse and Steven Denby III will suit up for Public.

Several Golden Rams have participated in this contest including All-American wide receiver Michael Washington (2004), WCU MVP quarterback Mike Mattei (2008) and current wide receiver Erick Brundidge (2010).
