Player News - Zwaan, James headline ECAC Awards for WCU

Head coach Bill Zwaan was named Coach of the Year and defensive back Shaquil James was named Defensive Rookie of the Year by the ECAC when they announced their 2015 Division II year end awards.

Named to the All-ECAC First Team were offensive linemen Doug Gilbert and Tyler Drob as well as defensive end Andrew Cohen and defensive back Ted Patton. Honorable mention recognition was given to tight end Tim Brown, running back Brandon Monk and safety Kevin Malone.

Player News - Andrew Cohen Named AP All-American

Senior defensive end Andrew Cohen has been named to the second team on the Associated Press Little All-America team which honors the top players in Division II, III and NAIA.


Cohen was All-PSAC East first team as a junior and senior and second team as a sophomore. Last season, when the Golden Rams advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs and finished 11-2, he was named third team Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super Region One, All-ECAC, and Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area. Prior to this season, Cohen was named preseason first team USA Football Network All-American. After leading the entire PSAC with 13.5 sacks for 91 yards and 20.0 tackles for loss this season, he was also named PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Year. His 1.23 sacks/game is good for fifth in the country and he set the career PSAC sack record with 33.5.

This season, Cohen had 39 solo tackles and 18 assists for 57 total tackles. He registered at least one sack in every game this season and was credited with two forced fumbles at Mercyhurst. Cohen was also a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award, a nominee for the Harlon Hill Trophy and is a finalist for the Cliff HArris Award.

Player News - Andrew Cohen a Cliff Harris Award Finalist

Senior defensive end Andrew Cohen has been named a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award which is presented to the small college defensive player of the year. The award was created by the Little Rock Touchdown Club and is presented to the top defensive player among NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA schools as chosen by head coaches and a committee of college and professional football greats.


Cohen was All-PSAC East first team as a junior and senior and second team as a sophomore. The overall winner will be announced on December 24 with the trophy being presented to the recipient at the Little Rock Touchdown Club’s annual awards banquet in February 2016. This marks the third consecutive season that the Golden Rams have had a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award. In 2013, linebacker Ronell Williams was on the finalist list and last year, cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz represented West Chester as a finalist.

Player News - Cohen, Keyser Honored for Academics

Two West Chester Golden Ram players have received honors for their performance on the field and in the classroom this season. For the second consecutive year, senior defensive end Andrew Cohen (Physical Education) was named to the 25-man team. He is joined by junior defensive back Kyle Keyser (Finance) who was previously named the PSAC Football Scholar Athlete.

The Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football team is voted on by the sports information directors of the 30 colleges and universities in the Philadelphia area.

Player News - Postseason Honors for Host of Rams

Eight members of the Golden Ram football team have been named to the 2015 USA College Football Division II All-American list sponsored by USA College Football. The eight were evenly divided between the offense and defense. Representing West Chester on the first team offense are senior co-captain and running back Brandon Monk as well as senior co-captain and tight end Tim Brown. Noted for the second team offense are junior left tackle Doug Gilbert and sophomore left guard Tyler Drob.

All four players on defense were named to the first team and include senior co-captain and defensive end Andrew Cohen, sophomore defensive tackle Josh Ganzelli, junior cornerback Ted Patton and junior saefty Kevin Malone.

Player News - Two Golden Rams Named All-Region

Two Golden Rams have been named to the 2015 Conference Commissioner’s Association (CCA) Division II All-Super Region 1 Football Team. Senior defensive end Andrew Cohen and junior offensive tackle Doug Gilbert were both named to the first team. Players are selected by the region’s sports information directors. The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education.



Both will have their names placed on the CCA All-America ballot with those results being announced on December 15.
